Ralph Kamp

In September 2009, Ralph Kamp (former CEO of Icon and Odyssey Entertainment), launched his own international production and sales company Timeless Films and continues his long standing relationships with producers, distributors and financiers across the world.

Ralph Kamp's Biography

Ralph Kamp entered the industry in 1981 working on the feature film MONTY PYTHON’S MEANING OF LIFE, before joining the MONTY PYTHON Organisation on a permanent basis, looking after all the interests of the 6 Python’s (Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones & Michael Palin,) going on to help raise finance and work on many of the Pythons later films (A FISH CALLED WANDA and THE ADVENTURES OF BARON MUNCHAUSEN are just 2 examples).

He convinced the management to let him start a sales business handling the worldwide sales of MONTY PYTHON’S FLYING CIRCUS TV Series (45 x 30 mins) and other films that they owned. It became quickly apparent that Ralph had found an area of the business that best suited his passion for films and his born skills as a salesman.

In the Summer of 1988, he joined Guy East’s new company MAJESTIC FILMS as a sales executive. In a little over a year Ralph was promoted to Director of Sales with a string of critical and financial hit movies such as DRIVING MISS DAISY, Kenneth Branagh’s HENRY V and the multi-Oscar winning blockbuster DANCES WITH WOLVES.

In 1992 Ralph was headhunted for the Chief Executive role at LUMIERE. Lumiere had acquired the 2000 title EMI Library but had just reported a huge loss. Within eighteen months, Ralph boosted the sales side of the business, the company reporting a £6m profit on a turnover of £44m. The company was then sold to UGC and later to Canal Plus.

In September 1995, Ralph joined Mel Gibson and Bruce Davey as CEO and a shareholder in the newly formed ICON ENTERTAINMENT INTERNATIONAL. Ralph was responsible for all aspects of film financing, production, sales & distribution as well as the overall direction and growth of the international division. Films included WHAT WOMEN WANT, SPICEWORLD and IDEAL HUSBAND.

After 6 very successful years at Icon, Ralph in partnership with a group of investors, founded a new production, finance and sales company ODYSSEY ENTERTAINMENT. The first slate of films included a $40m animated feature VALIANT and the $83m musical THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. Both films would go on to score great success at the worldwide box office with $56m and $160m respectively.

Over the next 7 years, Odyssey would arrange finance and distribute 34 feature films including THE LIBERTINE starring Johnny Depp, Oscar nominated AUGUST RUSH with Robin Williams and Freddie Highmore, LASSIE, and 2 more very successful animated features HAPPILY NEVER AFTER and SPACE CHIMPS.

The company enjoyed enormous commercial and critical success with its films and built a first class reputation within the industry. It became especially well known as the leading independent production, finance and sales company of family entertainment with particular emphasis on animation, an area that Ralph will continue to pursue into his next venture.

In 2009 Ralph decided to create a new international production, finance and sales company TIMELESS FILMS and continues his long standing relationships with producers, distributors and financiers across the world. A large part of the company’s emphasis is on family entertainment, a genre he has developed a very strong and successful reputation in over the last decade. Timeless’ slate includes WICKIE THE MIGHTY VIKING, a Michael ‘Bully’ Herbig film from Germany, which became a $65m Box Office hit across Europe, its sequel – WICKIE AND THE TREASURE OF THE GODS (3D), which hits cinemas across Europe from September 2011, ANIMALS UNITED, a 3D animated production from Constantin Film, which has so far grossed over $60m across 26 countries, SPACE CHIMPS 2: ZARTOG STRIKES BACK, a 3D sequel to the very successful 20th Century Fox animated feature and POSTMAN PAT: THE MOVIE (3D), based on the very famous UK Television character.

Further projects recently added to Timeless’ Line Up include;  THE WEDDING VIDEO, a British romantic comedy from CALENDAR GIRLS director Nigel Cole;  THE MOON AND THE SUN, a $55million fantasy adventure film from producer Bill Mechanic (former CEO and Chairman of Fox Studios) and director Sean McNamara (SOUL SURFER) starring Pierce Brosnan and AnnaSophia Robb and JUSTIN AND THE KNIGHTS OF VALOUR, a 3D animated feature currently in production in Spain with Academy Award nominated Kandor Graphics featuring the voices of Freddie Highmore, Saoirse Ronan and Antonio Banderas.

Over the last year, Ralph has also been working with Hollywood producer Lucas Foster (Mr & Mrs Smith, Law Abiding Citizen, Jumper) on a number of action movies that Lucas plans to produce over the coming years. A STRANGER COMES TO TOWN, directed by Neil Marshall and CRAWLERS, directed by David R. Ellis are expected to be the first 2 films to shoot in 2012.
